Jake spits to Greasy on the All Motor Shootout

When all of these interviews started to go out, as I said we at Greasyblocks got a number of emails concerning the event and what we were posting. Well, I ended up getting contacted on a social media site by Jake about the Shootout. Dude hit me up with a line mentioning he wanted to share his opinions. I gave him a phone number, and about 15mins later we were on the phone…

Those of you who dont know who Jake is, let me refresh your memory…

Being the 2nd car from the TGR crew, consisting of Tim Grey and Jake Gavio, Jake is possibly at every race that goes down, and knows all of the action both in person and what is posted on forums. His F2k (F20c-s2k block, mounted to a K-Series trans) looks like its breaking into the 10s with a good mph and  possibly what it takes to win the event. I guess this is why we see this video, but I think we need to know what Jake has to say to really back up the claims in the video. Being the co-creator of the All Motor Shootout gives him room to speak, too!

…Ganked the photos from Jake’s build thread since dude didn’t send me any! Yea, call out! ;)

Anyways, I wont babble you guys up who want to know what Jake had to say. We chatted on the phone for a second, and I was on the way out the door with a friend to grab some dinner and to check out something we were doing on my K-Series build, so I quickly emailed Jake the questions. He got back to me within a few hours, and here is what he had to say…

GB: Jake, I appreciate you calling me! What exactly made you put this event together and what were you involved with?
Jake: Tim grey and I were just sitting around BSing like we normally do and we jokingly were saying how bad ass it would be if the all motor guys had a shootout like the turbo class did last year. However we knew most people would not put up $1000 deposit like the turbo guys did. So Tim and I posted up a thread on HT, K20a.org and b20vtec that basically gauged the interest of everyone in the all motor scene. We had over 30 replies from people all over north america saying they would race. With everyones commitment , Tim and I stepped up and ran with the idea.

GB: You mentioned to me when we talked that you have a different view on the event than many may think. Lets hear it!
Jake: Our point of view from this race is different than many because of the efforts Tim and I put forth to get this race to happen. We took everyone’s word that they would step up and race when we first posed the question to all the racers. We took a mass amount of time out of our busy race schedule to build a very understanding relationship with the event organizer, to establish bank account, emails, paypal addresses, advertisements, etc in order to promote this event. I guess you can say our point of view on everything is different because not only are we racers but we also took on the role of organizers in getting this class going. So we saw things unfold right before us and struggled to keep it going.

GB: So we all saw the video of you pulling out your credit card, calling out the Cali guys. What sparked that comment?

Jake: Haha ok this is one thing that I feel definitely needs to be clarified. I have a HUGE amount of respect for everyone on the west coast. At the point we made that video (mid august) the event had been posted up for over 4 months and we only had 8 cars signed up for the shootout. I felt like I lived up to my end of the bargain by busting my ass to make this race happen, but all the racers did not because they were not entering the race. I felt as if I was being made to look like a fool because I was going to fail in my attempt to make an event of epic proportions happen. So I started to think , how can we drum up more excitement. Well I figured rappers can sell CDs by starting “fake” beef , so why can’t I “sell” spots by starting shit haha. So I decided to target the west because the only racers who had entered from that point were from east coast.
I have to say I may have let a little bitterness get the best of me during that video, with good reason for it though. Last year when Tim and I went out to Cali we were NOT met with open arms as you may have been lead to believe. Before we went out there Tim posted a video of his car going 10.58 which was met with a lot of praise and even more criticism. Most from west coasters. We are not angels by any stretch of the imagination so we definitely talked a lot of shit back. Long story short – when we were out there, there was only 1 or 2 racers that did NOT try to stare us down. It even went as far as people somehow getting my cell phone number and we were receiving some pretty crazy texts saying we were going to get our asses kicked and to bring the car “to the streets.” So I want to touch on the king of cali comment because I have to take blame for that one. That was a joke between Tim and I, but when we got home from Cali, after being talked shit to our whole ride home, I definitely threw that in the West’s face a little too much and that I apologize for. Sorry to go off on a tangent , I just wanted to explain our side of the cali trip that correlates to that video. Every place has its shit talkers, the east is no different. I tried to create some excitement and may have gone a little too far. I apologize to anyone from the west that was offended by that video, I just hope they understand the frustration I had with the event not taking off like we all thought it would to start out.

GB: How many are signed up in each class?
Jake:Well right now we have 18 cars in the all motor shootout. We have a full 16 car field so it will definitely be interesting to see how the bump spot is. Although the east is known for its “diet” so we’ll see how all the cars react to the added weight limits.
I’m sorry I can not speak to the turbo shootout as that is not my class and I dont have anything to do with it.

GB: $5k payout, $10 payout, These classes are like Christmas! How was the response when you guys announced the event?
Jake: The initial response was great. Last year the turbo shootout was a big success for those guys so I think that emotion bled off to the all motor scene. The initial response was the reason that Tim and I ran with the idea to begin with. We just decided to start with a $5000 race because a $500 deposit was a little easier to swallow for most.

GB: The all motor class is dominated by the K-Series. A birdy told me that you have an S2000 Longblock in the bay. What made you go that route?
Jake: Yessir I run a fwd f20c (s2000) motor. This was designed by InlinePro. What made me do this? To be different. We were already running very fast with Tim’s K series car so why make 2 of the exact same? We decided to try something different. We went the best of 10.97 and 126.8mph with a pretty basic build. It has a built shortblock but a stock head a what is technically considered a street cam. Once we get some more power it should show the full potential of the F series. Unfortunately we lost that motor in testing. Due to a few personal family issues weren’t able to have the new one done in time for the shootout.

GB: Are you excited about the west coast guys coming over to run in the class, unlike many on the forums who commented and couldn’t go? (Like myself might i add!)
Jake: I am extremely happy that the West coast will be not only represented in the shootout, but represented by the car that is at the top of his game over there. It is only fitting that they are represented well. I have a lot of friends on the west and like to help as many people out as we can. I don’t need to put our business out there but I have been in contact with Jerry almost every day and am trying to help make his trip out here as pleasant as possible. In fact as I type this , I am in the passenger seat while we are going to pick up fuel for him haha. Trust me when I say that I wanted this race to be huge and it is only right that the best from all over the country show up.

Jeff definitely gave more of a look to everyone on the origins of this event, the feelings expressed in the video by Nyce1s, and and where the East and West talk sits right now. I am a day late posting this. Still, I hope it is noticed that there is a lot riding on this race. If anything, this race (All motor, SFWD, and Outlaw classes) is banging a huge buzz for drag racing in 2010. Can I get a witness?!?

Too bad the f20c wasn’t ready in time. Would have been cool to see it.
