We all have had to stop on the road before with car trouble! Seems that every caravan of cars has its share! But this story is seriously like finding a needle in a haystack!
Going through pictures on numerous forums and other sites, it looks like H2o was one of the best events of the year. 1000s of cars jumped on the road from all directions to head to H2o. In this series the plan is to show what you are not seeing on the forums. Greasyblocks will cover the ride up with the DürtyDübs and Eurowise Caravan. The starting point was ATL and the meet-up point was just past Charlotte in Concord at the Lowes Motor Speedway exit off I-85.
I was sitting at Monterrey’s, still my favorite Mexican restaurant BTW, when I started going through Eric’s Macbook Pro. I shoot my way straight to Iphoto and click the H2o folder. What I saw was insane! There had to be over 500 pictures of the most random nonsense and partying I have ever seen! Anyways, I ran across these photos of this guy I met a few months ago working on a M3. Before I could even ask, Eric went straight into the story about what happened. It was too good to hear, so I contacted Mike for more of the story on his BMW!
GB: Mike, What happened man?!
Mike: As always last minute work was performed on the car to get the final stance on my M3 perfect. I have a 90mm stud conversion on my car with titanium gold lug nuts. You aren’t supposed to use air tools to run these lugs down but last minute and desperate measures, I turn my impact gun down to the lowest setting and just get the lugs started. At the same time I ran down the lower shock bolt. That’s where the issue began. I didn’t use a lift that night to work on my car so I didn’t do my usual routine and go back over all the bolts by hand. I lowered the car off the floor jack. Torqued the wheels down with my torque wrench and pulled her on out.
On the way up to concord mills to meet up with the durtydubs crew. Strangely while cruising on the highway, not driving fast or hitting huge bumps my left rear wheel started rubbing more then often. I didn’t think anything of it except my trunk was loaded down with parts and clothes. We all met up with the durties then took off. Not even 10 minutes after leaving the gas station nash calls me and says the dude following behind you says he sees your shock hanging. I was like “no way it cant be I don’t hear anything dragging or hitting” So we kept driving and he called back again and said “no seriously something doesn’t look right” so we pull off the interstate and as we are pulling off we hit a small road bump and while I am on the phone with him he was like “OMG something just hit my sub-frame”
So we pull off the exit into a gas station and sure enough my shock was completely loose. We hoped back onto the highway and drove up the off ramp and looked for less than 10mins and Noosh goes “there it is!” sure enough it was sitting in the middle of the highway off ramp!
Pretty crazy story 1 in a million for sure!
Thanks for getting back at me quickly Mike! I have seen a pretty good amount of work that has came out of the Eurowise camp, and for sure this story is not to reflect on their shop work, but more or less show you that even the best mechanics out there can have problems, especially if you are working in a rush! By day, they are your all goto quality Euro shop, and by night, your everyday average human being like the rest of us!!
Oh snap! BTW, who is this big overgrown Predator-looking black dude?!
Yes, that’s the famous Walker joining in on the action with some photos! Shot outs to you and my S3 homies man!
