1. 1st off it looks like the track was perfect by the results. Tell us weather & track conditions this weekend?
What’s up GB…. I have been going to the Fall Nationals since 2000. The weather at this time of the year is usually the best you can have for racing. It’s a little cooler but not cold. This year was unreal. The weather for the entire weekend was in the 70 – 75 degree range. Usually at this time of year we are forced to wear some type of jacket. It was not needed this past weekend. In addition, the track preparation at E-Town was on point as it is always. The E-Town track staff is definitely aware of what it takes for cars to go down the track. This weekend proved no different as numerous cars either broke world records or ran their personal best E.T.’s . They were all going down the track flying.
2. When the all motor and SFWD guys lined up you were texting me left and right. those guys made the live feed fun to watch. tell me about being on the line when they were running.
Many people don’t know that I’m an original all motor head. I still own a 1992 Civic SI hatchback that was an all motor car racing back in late 2001 and 2002. The All motor scene is how I got into this so it’s always something special to me. To see the class evolve and be able to witness how close that field was is incredible. You absolutely had no idea who would actually win. It came down to driving in most cases. Let’s think about this for a second. The bump spot was 10.8 I believe. That means that in order to make it into the field for eliminations you had to run a 10.8 or you were not going to race on Sunday. That was incredible racing. I would like to thank all the all motor guys for putting on a show. It almost makes me want to bring my car back out. Who knows what may happen in the future!
Next up we have Sport Front Wheel Drive. Once again so many competitors in this field and the cars were running strong. These drivers and teams were on their A game and I appreciate that. They had the fans standing in the bleechers. Actually, I remember most of the stands filled and people standing most of the day. It was really powerful to see specators that enthusiastic about racing!
3. Tell me about getting to the track. I know you were late! Did you guys see alot of traffic headed towards etown on those little back roads come sunday morning?
Well first of all I had good reason. LOL. I was back and forth between the track and NY every day since friday. Over the course of 3 days I may have gotten a total of 6-8 hours of sleep. This event along with Honda Day has always amazed me because you see so many cars and trailers on their way to the track. You also get to see a good amount of caravans that have about 15+ cars at times and everyone is heading to the track. That’s the way to start off the day for me. It gives me an idea of what the event will be like because you see the groups of people on the road and they are all enthusiastic about the event!
4. Word is there was a purple ek out there taking heads off and putting up numbers. Was it Jimenez? I also heard there was a black eg from North Carolina making alot of noise.
You are talking about Alan Jimenez from Dynamic Performance. I must say congratulations to those guys as they ran 9.1 and then 9.0 in SFWD trim. It is pretty funny to me though. I feel as though Dynamic Performance never receives the credit they deserve. Dynamic Performance is a local shop that has had 2 cars in the same class (SFWD) running mid to low 9’s on a consistent basis at the same time. We did a video for them showcasing those 2 cars last year. That video was basically about 6 minutes of 9 second passes. Please keep in mind that was the edited version. When I compiled all of their good passes they had about 12-13 minutes worth of back to back to back 9 second passes at various events and tracks. Those guys don’t stop.
The black eg from North Carolina was great. I love that car because it is so clean and flies under the radar. I heard people asking about the car. I knew the car of course. I believe that it is running on a 67 MM turbo. He ran a 9.3 in SFWD and then you had Brian Fisher out driving the legendary Red Civic hatch. He ran a 9.1 and I was jumping all over the place!!
5. Are you disappointed in import drag racing support in 2010, considering the records that have been set?
I think that the shops along with the fans, spectators and drivers are here and they can pretty much be the support system for our sport. If you look at the events over the past 2 years, you will see the numbers are continuing to grow. We would all love to see more support from manufacturers. However, the majority of them just don’t get it yet. These events are getting bigger and bigger with or without them. The local shops and businesses are coming to these events, setting up displays and raking in some serious cash from the spectators that are coming out to enjoy racing and purchase product.
Their has always been one thing that held true. Those people that are truly into this are die hard and they will be their to support it no matter what. We are grooming the next age of import racers and enthusiasts. What makes me say this? I am a numbers guy. I have seen a trend with our online videos. The demographic that tunes in to our videos is getting younger. When we started distributing these online videos the number of people watching our videos were mostly in the 25-34 age grouping. That has changed where most of our videos are being watched by people 18-24 years of age. We have multiple Youtube channels which are broken down and segmented in regards to their areas of interest (Nyce1s, Nyce1sIndex, Nyce1sbracket Nyce1sDrift, Nyce1sTV, Nyce1sCrash, Nyce1sBloopers etc). Our main Nyce1s Youtube page was receiving about 100,000 views a month a little over a year ago. The collection of videos on that Nyce1s page are now receiving 150,00+ views per week. This is incredible growth over a time period of a year and it has been consistently on the rise as we gain more viewers in more countries worldwide.
Manufacturers are actually hurting themselves because they are not being seen by this growing demographic. Take a look at the list of marketing partners that we have had display ads on our videos which are companies such as Net Talk, AT&T, Verizon, Go Pro, Red Bull, G-Unit Records, Cisco networks, Google, Subaru, Microsoft, Volvo, BMW, Fox5, Honda, VAMortgage Center, Chevrolet and Xbox just to name a few. However, you will get a good amount of shops and manufacturers that choose not to market their products via the events or our videos and it makes me wonder how they are actually going about promoting their business. The core demographic that your trying to capture are frequent online users and in attendance at these various events such as the Fall Nationals. However, many companies have absolutely NO visible presence on the internet or at the track.
Whether they choose to be successful or not will be up to them. Our company along with OGS and the various event organizers in the industry will continue to move in the right direction. I can only imagine that they will want to work towards growth also in the future.
6. What did the actual crowd look like on Saturday and Sunday?
Saturday is always a decent day at Englishtown. Many people are still working and/or doing things with family on Saturday. However, Sunday is the day that everyone comes out. People come out in crews and with the entire family for the show. I have sent you a couple photos with this interview that show you the magnitude of the crowd on Sunday. They know that Sunday is the day when either you bring out your best or you’re going home. That’s what our crowd likes and enjoys. You see people in the stands putting up money all day long. I know a buddy that made about $270 bucks on Sunday taking bets in the stands. He said he studied most of our videos that week so he could come out on top. LOL!!!
7. You guys were filming on stage basically. In your assessment during the day looking out, who were crowd favorites in each class?
It’s hard to determine the crowd favorites when you are actually on the track. However, I can tell you that I heard some of the loudest cheers and people yelling when Miller layed down that 8.43 along with Pepsi’s record breaking 10.1 all motor run. Those runs meant alot to an enormous amount of people as they showed that these guys are pushing the envelope and going to only get faster as time goes on.
The quick 32 class was just one of the best I have seen. There were so many 7 second cars and guys dipping into the 6 second range. I know quite a few domestic guys who were in attendance at the Fall Nationals. They asked me if those cars in the Quick 32 Class were V8 powered. They were trying to be funny. LOL. These guys admitted they did not think Import cars could get down the track like. They were happy that they came out!
8. Coming off of a week reaching both 5,000 fans on Facebook and over 10,000,000 views on youtube what should we expect to see from nyce1s in 2011?
Those two milestones were really major for us. Facebook is one of the most powerful tools to date and we have not really focused on Facebook until the last 6 months. I can’t image what reach we will have with our Facebook page growing the way it has been. We have seen instant traffic to our site within minutes of posting information on Facebook.
The 10 Million views on Youtube is one of our best achievements. We basically were able to have 10 Million people watch our online video features in a 2 year time period. That is insanely powerful. However, there is more to come. The 2011 calendar year will be our best yet. We have a few more videographers and photographers in different regions. We have recently launched more Youtube channels and we are going to be working on ways in which to enhance our online forum/website.
Additionally, the SICC Drag/Car Show series will be back with a few improvements and adjustments. We were very happy to see the interest in our brand of events in the Carolina Region. That is still a region that is pretty much untapped and waiting for the right exposure. There are so many people that are ready to represent the Nyce1s name in various parts of the world. We are going to make that possible for everyone.
9. Which was your favorite class; ALL MOTOR, SFWD, or OUTLAW? Tell us why?
That’s pretty tough considering the level of racing in all classes. I am an all motor guy from day one so that class along with the SFWD and the Quick 32 classes were unbelievable. It was just back to back racing where anyone could have taken the win. I was filming but also caught myself on the edge of my seat so to speak because I could not tell who won until the win light showed up at the end of the quarter mile.
10. Tell me about your favorite behind the scenes moment this weekend?
For me it was speaking to Yosolo’s Crew and Jerry Built. These 2 competitors are heavy hitters in the all motor game. Jerry from the west coast and Yosolo from the East coast. Funny thing is Jerry came down and spent most of his days here with the Yosolo camp. They helped each other out working on their cars and they ended up facing each other in the finals. That was major for me to hear that! That kind of dedication and friendship is what will ultimately take us to the next level in Import Racing.
Straight off of the track, Julian from Nyce1s stops in with his view of the race, and a little Q&A session!
