Friday

After getting at it all night we decided to hang out and catch up on some sleep. Friday was to be a long day. Well we ended up getting up early to start on the car. I am a slow guy I guess when it comes to swapping a motor, it took me a while. I did things in a slow order so that I would not forget things and remember how I had it together. Bolts and things come off of the car and with me will get lost quick like. I started to disassemble the car.

When we were leaving and loading up, this little girl and her mother came up to us in the front of Costco and gave Mike $12 and some change, and her mother said that she wanted to help out and asked her if they could give some to the cause. This little girl couldn’t have been older than possibly 12, at the most. It makes you feel so special to see where our youth are going, and how people will get behind a positive cause. They were behind us in line, and we had 6 carts. It took over 15 minutes to check out, and everyone was interested and giving Mike extremely positive feedback.

On the way back, saw some ballons. I always loved these as a kid. We have an event in Greenville, SC called Freedom Weekend Aloft. I will not be there this year to see it, but will be able to follow it from my LightningHammer App. Thank you Keith Storm!

Got back to the house and worked on the car for about an hour or so…

…Then got cleaned up to head to the showing of Fast Five. Mike and I met up with about 12 people.

2 of those people were Don Napier, and his wife Michelle. Import Alliance all up in the theater! Speaking of theaters, we were in this redesigned custom one called the G or something like that. The sound almost stopped your heartbeat. And you were in these extremely comfy leather captains seats. This made watching the movie that much more enjoyable. I couldn’t believe how much fun it was, and the movie to me was awesome. They took the “car movie” feel out of it and actually gave it a plot. Flamesuit on for those who didn’t like it.

After the movie, I went back for an all nighter and took the skunk2 intake manifold off of the blown block for shits and giggles, and check out what was inside!

I put the stock K20a2 intake manifold on the K24a4 block, as my skunk2 manifold did not fit. I needed to run a different water pump or trim slightly, but did not have time.

Saturday

we got tired about 6am, and passed out. About 9am we came back and got at it again.

After a few hours, we took a trip to get some bolts or something to block off the water jacket and vaccum on the cylinder head where the K20a2 manifold did not cover, but the accord one did. O’Reillys saw a LOT of me during my time at Track.One.

Getting back, one of the bolts we got was too long, so Mike went in on it and cut it in half!

Mike had to leave for Alabama, but was nice enough to let me continue to use his shop.

Just a few wires and tighten up a few things and its ready to ride.

PG+K Mo and BonB came by to help me get shit right! A fresh set of eyes is just what I needed.

Coolant leak on the ghetto rig! It was already 1am so it was like screw this. Lets go get some grub and sleep.

Sunday

Sunday, we were LAZY! Bon needed some sleep, and it rained like a MOFO! So, we chilled at the house all day. Here is Bon’s dinner. Looks like we at a restaurant! Def not used to seeing this come from the Kitchen!

After I took this picture, we went to the shop and fixed the exhaust leak and brought the car back over to Bon’s house. I took a small stability drive 1st to make sure it was going to hold together for the 40min ride. It held up, and I was ok. I needed to re-tighten the exhaust bolts. After the drive to Bon’s house, I once again fell over. I have been dragging. I am not sure if it is the rain or just not being at home, but it has made me fall on my face! Maybe its the fact that I am crashing with people this leg of the trip instead of staying in hotels.

Backyard Special bumpers along with Mugen wheels are normally parts that you do not see the average joe posted up on the corner with, but what about out in horrific rain storm? This story is true for Jared’s 1998 Acura Integra Type R. Now, throw in 2 idiots running for cover, lightning strikes that were too close for comfort, and a wall of rain and you will now be able to call this whole article pure insanity!

What happens when you are about to do a photo shoot and you just run into problem after problem?  Do you run back to camp and wait for another day? Do you wait til it stops raining and clean the car again? Do you hold off because now the place you were going to shoot is muddy? You can check no to everything that was just listed because we still shot!

The storm was probably the worst storm I have seen in my area all year, and on top of that my Vagabond power unit took a crap on me on the 1st flash burst! Without my bee’s, I got extremely mad. Still, Jared stayed around with me and we decided to still shoot. He had already traveled to the update from Columbia, SC just to hang out and shoot. No turning back now.

When we ran into this storm, it was a moment of “OH S&$%” between us. You see, there was a good bit of golf ball sized hail involved right after the downpour started. Things got so bad at one point that we ran for quick cover under an overpass that was packed. We looked at each other and wondered what we were going to do to move the car out of this mess. Considering the ITR has fresh paint on the body, we were in a panic!

Knowing how Jared came up on this ITR is funny in itself. The car had been sitting for a year since about the last time I shot it. The previous owner, Casey Whittaker, had this thing diced in Mugen Hardware from head to toe. It was probably one of the best Mugen equipped cars on the road in the US. All of the parts were real as well, unlike many other clones which were not even real Type R’s in the 1st place, but that’s another story for another article!

Jared’s old GSR before this car was a K20a Monster (I will have a feature of that car coming up here in the next week or so. Be on the lookout!) And yes, the K20a from Japan is still ready for a new home if someone is looking for one (useless plug on a for sale topic, I’m cheesy!)

Jared sold the majority of the Integra parts from the old GSR, he paid Casey a visit in North Carolina to lay down some bills on one of the most documented Integra Type R builds ever recorded. But like anyone who looks to continue modding and changing a car, Jared had a hell of a task in front of him. Have you ever tried taking someone else’s car and making it your own. Many times, people will see a car out and they will say “Hey, that’s xxxx’s car” or another phrase along those lines.

After scooping up the car from NC he quickly came home and got to work. In that time he sourced a motor, got some paint work going, picked up a set of Mugen MF10’s from the homie Blackstarr in NC, and got the car running. The time line for all of this is just under a month and I have to say that’s moving if you ask me! On a shell, a month, with no outlook on a motor when you get the car home.

I have to say that Jared is keeping the history going well on this well known ITR by not only changing up the build some, but actually driving the car still! These days, you don’t see many of these parts out on the road, and its about damn time someone actually is using a car for what it was meant for… FUN!
