Oscar is a hidden gem in our industry today. Wheather you are dealing with Imports, Domestics, Road Racing, Tuning, it doesn’t matter. This new era of the Jackson Family legacy is about to show extreme talent from behind the wheel and have some fun while doing so!

What do you do when your old man is always at the track, or under the hood of a automobile. Like any smart person, or out of their mind idiot, you watch like a hawk and try to absorb the knowledge flying in the air. Many of us can relate but when senior is a very influential name in the sport, you have some pretty large shoes to fill. Oscar Jackson Jr is the perfect example of the old saying “the apple doesnt fall far from the tree” with his career path.

Oscar has been testing cars since years back, and riding moto since he was a kid, but this years tasks will be extra work for sure. On top of the day to day operations at Kraftwerks, Jr will be taking a new gig on behind the wheel of a well known Integra Type R for a Time Attack team. Daily Grind: Everything at KraftWerks. You’ve seen me here Ben, I am running around all day.
We see a good deal of you on the forums talking about your product, KraftWerks Superchargers.
How have the last few years been for your company: KraftWerks is our brand of Rotrex-based supercharger systems for import vehicles. It has been a crazy 4 years for us. With KraftWerks being a fresh start for us, a lot of things had to start moving quickly. Luckily we have had some great guys here pushing to make the company successful. We started a lot of projects at once, but we have continued to push. We will have our product list completed this year with the release of our 8th Gen Civic Si kits and 90-97 Miata Kits. We are all very excited to get these products on the market.

What are your plans for 2011: 2011 is going to be an exciting year. In 2010 I was testing supercharged projects more than anything. Near the end of 2010, I started driving Jade’s SportCar Motion CTR at select Time Attack events and a few other exhibition events. We had a lot of fun and had some success, even with our last minute, thrown together effort.

So for 2011, SportCar Motion gave me the opportunity to drive their KraftWerks-supercharged K24 ITR for Time Attack. This thing is a beast! I am really looking forward to getting out there this year and cutting some fast laps. I will be able to give you some more feedback after this initial weekend of where we are headed, but I like what we are doing so far.

I have some other racing projects I am trying to put together for the year as well, so 2011 is looking great!
I bet since you are Oscar Jackson’s son, people are judging you quickly based on that, without seeing your driving skill. what do you have to say to these folks: Haha, you had to go there! I have gotten used to the judging the past couple years. It’s something I will always be up against, so I don’t stress about it. I focus on the task at hand and let my performance do the talking. And shoot, I’d get the boot if Oscar Sr. felt I wasn’t capable of bringing wins home!
Where will we see you next: We will be heading out to the opening round of Redline Time Attack at Willow Springs this weekend. I am really excited to see what the SportCar Motion ITR can do out there. With the new KraftWerks power, it should be pretty fast. We are little behind on our testing, but I think Oscar Sr. and I can sort through it. Then I have some wheel to wheel stuff scheduled later in March. It should all be fun!

I’m sure many of you flip through the pictures from the track and wonder why there is a pretty little 3 year old girl at the track? You’re thinking, “Is she with out a babysitter?” “What kind of people take a kid to the track?” “That’s not safe”. Bla….bla…bla! What many people don’t realize is that many racing icons and industry legends started out their path as children in a very familiar setting.

Meet Kaila. She is our 3-year-old daughter. She enjoys long walks on the beach, and any sort of racing! Since the day she was born, she has been apart of the world we love. Going to the track is as normal to her as it is to a usual child to go to the park. It is a big part of her life, and she really enjoys being apart of it. While most 3 year olds are home watching Barney, Kaila is out learning from the best, having the time of her life! The level of questions that she constantly has for us is insane! If it has any sort of tie to racing or how a car runs and is fixed, she must know everything! If you ask her what kind of cars we own, she knows. You ask her to grab the floor jack, she grabs it. You ask her opinion of the competition; she tells you how she sees it! You ask her to name the many components of the car, she knows where the exhaust is ! And, then some! She is on top of it! Kaila knows about safety, and what is required to race. If a car is coming, she knows her boundaries. Her constant willingness to learn is intense! By the time she has a driver’s license, I can see it now! Kaila will be the next family member to be setting track records!

What made this discussion on racing and children even more interesting was that we had Oscar Jackson and his son Oscar Jackson Jr, out racing with us for our third event together this year. Junior is the prime example of a bright child raised in the world of racing and the automotive industry. Junior shared some old family photos of him and his parents during their times of racing. It was such an awesome example of a child such as Kaila growing up in such an amazing way! The stories that both Junior and Senior share with us were priceless! As we carried a sleeping Kaila away over our shoulders after a long day of racing on Sunday, Senior flashed back on the all too familiar scenes of his son’s early childhood.

Besides the fact that we make racing a family affair including our kids, we also consider the ones around us as part of our family. Racing has brought us so much closer to some of the best people out there! We are always there for each other. They are our family! Racing will always run in the family!

When you think of Doug’s Time Attack winning FWD terror graces Greasy Blocks in a tell all hangout!

This feature is like a funny story to me. See, Doug is a local, and before I saw his car racing at Button Willow, Englishtown, Fontana, and Roebling, I saw it riding around on the street on my daily routine. And, with the lack of media support for the SRT4 and other Domestic sport compacts, I was ill-advised on what type of car that was beside me on those days. This SRT4 does not only see the street in normal traffic, but it also is reigning champion and holds the title of National Street Tire Champion for 2009.

The deal with Doug is though, he carries on a daily 9-5 grind, he does not work in the motorsports industry, and he still carries on to lead his family life. This, and the fact that he is working with a car that most of us would not expect to see at a Redline event, but instead a drag strip. While the SRT4 holds an unlimited potential in both its platform and drivetrain, the support compared to the import choices and competition he has makes the Dodge a black sheep of the crowd in most cases. I see these things all over the place too, and while there is aftermarket support, there is not much of a media following to this car. It is a shame. But Doug’s car has become a Internet icon, and has set some pretty awesome records including the Buttonwillow Street Tire FWD track record of 2:00.256, which was set at the 2009 Super Street Super Lap Battle Finals.

Doug is a pretty cool guy to hang out with. Not only helping me out with a few lights on the photo shoot, but we had a chance to catch up one night recently at a local hangout spot where I went to meet up with him. I had to chance to ask him a few interview style questions about the SRT4 and his history in racing. Check it out!

1. Why did you get the srt4?

Best bang for the buck performance car.  High HP, decent OEM handling and brakes in a “sub-3,000lb.” platform.

2. Why did you start racing? What exactly made you decide to compete in the Time Attack Series?

I got into running time attacks after several years of competing in the One Lap of America event and NASA-TT.  My involvement was spurred by a friend who passed my name along to Continental Tires as someone whom they could count on to run a highly competitive car in “Street Tire” events around the country.  As they were getting more involved in these events they were looking for someone to showcase their new line of high performance street tires.  I started running on the Continental Sport Contact 3 tires in 2008, moved to the Extreme Contact DW in 2009 & 2010 and for the west coast finals of 2010, we will be debuting the new Force Contact ultra high performance tires.

3. Your keys to staying successful in time attack?

Constant evolution of the platform.  I do not think there has been an event in the last two years that didn’t give us an idea of how we can next improve on the car.  Keeping 2 steps ahead of the competition is hard work, but it pays great dividends.

4. Recently, you got a new block setup together. When will you be testing?

I hope to get the new block completed with about 4 weeks time and testing at Roebling Road or VIR prior to prep for our trip to Cali in late October.

5. Any new upgrades to the car besides the block?

We recently added an awesome 19-row Setrab oil cooler set-up.  This keeps the oil temps back down in the 240-250 range on even the hottest days in the South. We are also working with several new potential sponsors at the moment, but those announcements will have to await final contract details.

6. What part about the srt4 is your least favorite?

About my particular car…. I wish I had a non-sunroof model, just to save a few pounds.  Truthfully I love almost everything about this car, but if I had to pick something that has given me more headaches than anything else this year, it would be the transmission.  Replacement parts are pricey and whole spares are hard to find in good condition.

7. What tire are you currently running? How do you like it?

In 2009 and 2010 we have been running the latest offering from Continental Tires, the Extreme Contact DW.  This has been a great tire and has helped us achieve back-to-back Championships in Redline Time Attack as well as the Super Lap Battle.  With the Extreme DW’s we have set the track record at EVERY track we have attended for both Redline Time Attack and Super Lap Battle.  All but one record still stands!

8. 2011 is right around the corner. Are you already making plans for the new year?

Yes.  Planning for the next year always starts before the previous season is complete.  Prioritizing winter projects, sourcing parts and sponsor relations is a never ending process that takes a lot of time and energy.

9. Do you have any advice you would give to someone who is interested in the Time Attack series?

If you haven’t ever experienced driving a car at high-speeds around a road course track, you don’t know what you are missing!  The ability to push your car to the limits (and sometimes beyond them) is an exhilarating experience and being able to grow and learn the craft of race-car driving, is an adrenalin junkies dream!

SRT-4 Owners and lovers unite! The Time Attack series this year was dominated in the street class by this “evil skittle” and for good reason! Doug Wind is a local to me here in upstate  South Carolina, and this car notorious on all levels of bad-ass! Sitting on 285’s and boasting over 450hp, this bitch hauls.

Doug clinched the street Championship with the Forced Performance/Continental Tire-backed SRT-4 taking home a victory in damn near every event! This title, The East Region Buddy Club Street FWD Class, was more or less Doug’s playground! He even won the west coast Super Lap Battle Finals at Buttonwillow, setting a new lap record and winning the Street FF title in the event! Congrats to a great season in 2009, and the best of luck for 2010.
